Pengaruh Ketidakfungsian Keluarga Dan Penghargaan Kendiri Bagi Meramal Pengherotan Kognitif Dalam Kalangan Remaja Delinkuen.
The purpose of this study is to see the effect of family functional and self-esteem to predict cognitive distortion among juvenile delinquents in two rehabilitation centre in Kuala Lumpur. The study was conducted upon 79 juvenile delinquents using three psychological tools to measure family functioning, self-esteem and cognitive distortion. Family Adaptability And Cohesiveness Evaluation Scales (FACES III), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scales (RSES) and Briere Cognitive Distortive Scale (BCDS) were used in the study. The data was analyzed using Pearson Correlation to see the relationship between the variables and Regression Analysis was used to see the predictor of family functioning and self-esteem towards cognitive distortions. The result showed that there were no significant relationship between family functioning and self-esteem at the level of p>0.05. Family functioning also showed no significant relationship with cognitive distortion at the level of p>0.05. But there is significant and negative relationship between self-esteem and cognitive distortion. The result also showed that self-esteem predicted cognitive distortion significantly at the level of p<0.05. There were three themes that have been identified from the interview with the five respondents, which is family functioning, peer influences and the age of involvement in misconduct behaviours.
