Background: Unmet Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) criteria in the current WHO definition of blindness and low vision, as well as a gap in CVI education, led to the difficulty to deliver or receive necessary consultation and modifications in CVI
learning. Therefore, teachers of visually impaired students (TVIs) must be competent to serve CVI children by having comprehensive understanding on CVI and related visual behaviour, as well as making decisions on appropriate instruments to serve this population despite the presence of barriers to CVI education. Purpose: This research is intended to explore the knowledge, application, and barriers to CVI education among TVIs. Method: It mainly involved 204 teachers in PPDK Selangor, who were required to complete a survey distributed online to all PPDK Selangor representatives. Results: The results revealed the existence
of barriers in the education of CVI, as well as reduced knowledge and application ability among teachers on CVI learning. It is further suggested that there is a positive and statistically significant relationship between knowledge or application ability with the barriers in CVI education. Conclusion: Hence, the results imply that teachers lack CVI knowledge as well as the ability to
provide proper consultation to CVI children; the majority of teachers concerned about the existence of barrier to CVI education. In addition, the presence of gap does not necessarily lead to the reducing knowledge or ability to apply relevant interventions when assisting this population.
