Caregiving towards children with special needs is a challenging task that brings stress and burden. The impact of caregiving could influence the quality of life among caregivers and in turn affecting the quality of life of the children. This study aimed to examine the stress levels and quality of life among caregivers of children with disabilities (CWDs) attending Community-Based Rehabilitation Program (CBRP) in Kelantan, as well as the quality of life among CWDs. It also aimed to examine their associations with each other. Data were collected from 196 caregivers using the Malay Stress Subscale of DASS-21, the Malay WHOQOL-BREF, and the Malay PedsQL (Parent-Report). Results revealed that caregivers reported normal stress levels and moderate quality of life across all four domains which are physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. CWDs also demonstrated moderate quality of life in psychosocial and physical health dimensions. Regression analyses showed a significant negative relationship between caregiver stress and caregiver quality of life (R² = 30.9%) and a weaker but significant negative relationship between caregiver stress and CWD quality of life (R² = 4.5%). A weak positive association was found between caregiver quality of life and CWD quality of life (R² = 2.3%). These findings underline the interconnectedness of caregiver well-being and child outcomes, highlighting the importance of reducing caregiver stress and enhancing quality of life for both caregivers and CWDs through targeted interventions and expanded CBRP services.
