Tajuk: What do community-based rehabilitation workers in Malaysia actually know about feeding and swallowing disorders? Given that knowledge about feeding and swallowing disorders among CBR workers is underexplored and the availability of appropriate survey is limited, this study aimed to determine the reliability of a self-developed feeding and swallowing disorders survey (FSD), identify the level of knowledge by CBR workers regarding feeding and swallowing disorders, and identify associated demographic factors influence the level of knowledge. A total of 102 CBR workers participated in this study. The FSD survey shows high test-retest reliability. Overall knowledge of CBR workers regarding feeding and swallowing disorders was moderate. Specifically, CBR workers demonstrated with the moderate level of knowledge in identifying signs and symptoms of feeding and swallowing disorders, a low knowledge of feeding and swallowing complications, a high knowledge regarding appropriate feeding strategy and a moderate knowledge of professional involvement in managing feeding and swallowing disorders and role of speech language pathologist. Duration of training, working experience and previous experience in managing individuals who have feeding and swallowing disorders significantly contributed to the high level of knowledge among this CBR workers. However, gender, level of education and the role of CBR workers have no significant effect on knowledge of feeding and swallowing disorders. Effective training and continuous education about feeding and swallowing disorders are highly recommended for CBR workers. Collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare and Speech -language pathologist (SLP) should be advocated to reduce the gap of knowledge possessed by these CBR workers.
