Current study evaluated the relationships between attachment style, trauma impact, and life satisfaction among institutionalized children in Malaysia, as well as the possible mediating effects of attachment style. A total of 103 participants (53.4% males) who reside in four main Children Homes in Malaysia were employed by using purposive sampling. Attachment style, trauma impact, and life satisfaction were assessed by using the Attachment Style Classification Questionnaire for Latency Age Children (ASCQ), Children’s Revised Impact of Event Scale (CRIES-8), and Satisfaction with Life Scale adapted for Children (SWLS-C) respectively. Result indicated that negative relationship was found between avoidant attachment and life satisfaction. Analysis also revealed that there are positive relationships between secure attachment and life satisfaction, anxious attachment and intrusion (trauma impact), as well as anxious attachment and total score of CRIES-8. Besides, secure attachment can significantly predict one’s life satisfaction when all demographical data were controlled. Intrusion can significantly predict one’s anxious attachment, when all demographical data were controlled. CRIES Total can significantly predict one’s anxious attachment, when all demographical data were controlled. In conclusion, attachment style was not significantly mediating the relationship between life satisfaction and trauma impact. This research had broadened the understanding of the impact towards the maltreated Malaysia children. KEYWORDS Trauma, attachment, children, life satisfaction, maltreatment
