Abstrak Kajian
Background: Cognitive function is important for elderly people who in institution and the impact of cognitive impairment on the functional independence level must be investigated to plan any possible intervention that will give benefit for elderly people. Thus, the objective fir this study are to identify which aspect in cognitive function commonly impair, to identify association between cognitive impairment and level of functional independence in older people and to identify between demographic data with cognitive function in older people. Method: Across-sectional study by consisted of 80 elderly people age 60-90 year, 56.3% female and 43.8% male. Location for this study at Elderly Institution (Rumah Seri Kenangan Pengkalan Chepa, Rumah Seri Kenangan Cheras and Rumah Ehsan Al-muktafilbilal Shah). The population data were gathered using Malay Lowenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment cognitive function, Functional Independence Measure (FIM) for the assessment of level of functional independence. A significant correlation was observed between M-LOTCA-G and FIM. Statistical evaluation: descriptive analysis to identify frequency cognitive function commonly impairs and Chi square for association between cognitive function and functional independence level. Result: The common cognitive function impair among elderly people based on M-LOTCA-G is thinking operation and visuomotor organization. Based on Chi Square, there is no significant association between visuomotor organization and thinking operation with functional independence level (p>0.05). Then, there are significant association between demographic data with cognitive function. Conclusion: Cognitive impairment already present in elderly people but in cannot precise which aspect commonly effect. However, the certain cognitive impairment it not influences the level of functional independence in activity of daily living among institution elderly people.
